Hyperventilation
Hyperventilation is often found to accompany anxiety and panic attack. Excessive breathing can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, weakness, shortness of breath, a sense of unsteadiness, muscle spasms in the hands and feet, and a tingling feeling around the mouth and fingertips. All of these symptoms are the result of abnormally low levels of carbon dioxide in the blood caused by over breathing. When you breathe, you inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This causes many of the symptoms we may feel if we hyperventilate.

Breathing Techniques
In order to overcome reoccurring hyperventilation, it is recommended to start practicing the
"Deep Breathing" technique when we are calm. It is important to practice a few times a day, until we master the technique and enjoy it. When we experience hyperventilation, we should apply the
"Deep Breathing" technique until we feel more relaxed and overcome the hyperventilation.
Using a Paper Bag
Take 6 to 12 easy, natural breaths, with a small paper bag held over your mouth and nose. Then remove the bag from your nose and mouth and take easy, natural breaths. Do not use a paper bag if you have any heart or lung problems.
